I raised that question with @Toolie, she said too many articles and was experiencing a 504 Gateway Timeout. Why not just update the standard way?
Would a normal site update/migration (3.10.12 > 4.x > 5.x) not work?
No, for the same reason, too many articles. The extensions timed out (504).
@Toolie, I'm not sure the two things are related - 62,000 articles shouldn't cause a Gateway timeout (I could be wrong).504 Gateway Timeout
The server was acting as a gateway or proxy and did not receive a timely response from the upstream server.
From what I understand, the timeout could be caused by a delayed, or lack of response from the update servers for your extensions (or Joomla Update). Perhaps some extensions are obsolete, and update servers no longer exist? Try rebuilding the update server list. (Options screen under the Joomla update component).
I wonder if increasing Max Execution time will help. That would be a pain to have to do this import routine every time there's a minor or major CMS update, if as you have indicated, a normal Joomla Update doesn't work and results in time-outs.
