General Questions/New to Joomla! 5.x • How do I create a button link to a popup module?

I wish to have a button in the page Footer position which will open a popup module which contains a mailchimp subscribe form. The form itself works fine, as does the popup module if it inserted directly into the footer but that means it opens as soon as the page is opened. The popup module I'm using is PopUp JT with HTML content for the mailchimp form. I've tried other popups but the problem is always getting a button to activate the popup.

The code I've been trying is:
<a class="button" href="#onclick={loadmoduleid 112}">Subscribe</a>

I'm using Joomla 5.2.2 and PHP 8.2.21
